We offer dynamic programming in state of the art facilities, situated on 72+ beautiful acres in Newbury, Ohio and 1,800 acres in Metamora, Michigan, serving families throughout Northeast Ohio, Michigan, and the entire country! Celebrating our 95th summer in 2024, we have a wide variety of seasonal leadership and field positions available and we are continuing to grow and expand our year-round team. If you have a passion for excellence, are hardworking, possess excellent communication skills and want to grow as a summer camp professional, then we would love to hear from you!

Who We Hire

At the very core of Camp Ho Mita Koda is our staff, made up of teachers, education students, medical professionals, college athletes and coaches, artists, and other young professionals. We select only the best, most dedicated, and qualified staff, many of whom grew up at Camp Ho Mita Koda as campers or LITs. Never been to Camp before? Fear not! We hire a diverse range of staff from the United States and from all over the world!

Camp Ho Mita Koda counselors and medical staff are fun, mature, and knowledgeable people, whose first priority is to provide a safe, high-quality program to our campers. They provide group and individual instructions in our activities and act as mentors and role models to our campers. In short, our staff are a huge part of what makes Camp Ho Mita Koda great!

We’ve found that the best counselors and medical staff are leaders who know how to work very well in groups as well as on their own while enjoying learning from an experienced leadership staff as well as the campers they live with every day! Beyond teaching and leadership skills, we look for maturity, trustworthiness, intrinsic motivation, dependability, flexibility, and a willingness to put campers before themselves. Our expectations and standards are high for experience and certifications, as well as behavior in and out of camp.

Counselors spend a full week or more before campers arrive receiving dynamic, intensive training and learning the ins and outs of Camp Ho Mita Koda policies, games, facilitation, behavior management, culture, and how best to care for your campers. Plus, with a staff of over 30 for 65 campers, our camper to staff ratio ensures that every camper gets the care and attention they need.

Camp can have an enormously positive impact on children. CHMK strives to create an environment where children feel physically and emotionally safe, and where they can develop socially, physically and creatively. Here at Ho Mita Koda, through building a community of peers and being immersed in the camp environment, campers learn that they are not alone in their diagnosis, that they are capable of achieving great things and can learn to view their diagnosis as a super power. Our staff act as leaders, mentors, and friends. We teach skills in a gentle, supportive way and emphasize values such as concern for others, cooperation, and confidence. CHMK hires staff members who are patient, understanding, motivated, energetic and believe in putting the needs of campers first!
